Kicked, beaten, humbled and scolded while you are defenseless on the floor and are also filmed. Seven times passers -by fell victim to a group of violent young people in Rosmalen and Den Bosch last fall. Two 18-year-old men and a 17-year-old boy of that group were sentenced on Monday to 18 months of juvenile detention for the abuse.
The first abuse was on Sunday, October 13 at the Laaghtemaal in Rosmalen. Three friends cycled home that night after a party from the volleyball club. Along the way they were harassed by a group of young people on scooters. The atmosphere became increasingly grim until the young people became aggressive and the cyclists worked to the ground. They were beaten in their faces and kicked against their heads.
Less than two days later it was hit again. In the Ridderstraat in Den Bosch, someone was kicked and beaten by the group of young people. The victim was also sprayed in the face with a plant sprayer.
Another day later the same happened with another victim on the Dean of Roestellaan in Rosmalen. This victim was left with a bruised eye socket and a concussion.
Man touches out of consciousness
On October 27, the group of young people abused a man at the intersection of the Van Veldekade and Hekellaan in Den Bosch. The victim was pushed to the ground, his outerwear was pulled out and he was kicked in his belly. In the meantime he was called names. The abuse continued for so long that the victim became out of consciousness.
In November the group raged three more times in different places in Rosmalen and Den Bosch. One of the victims got a knee in his neck while lying on the floor. He was pulled on his hair and kicked against his back. The victim had to apologize from the perpetrators. “Say sorry, you’re gay”, it was called.
At another victim, the pants and underpants were pulled out and thrown into the water. The man was kicked so much and beaten that he moaned with pain. Then he had to sit on his knees and say sorry.
The last abuse happened November 25 on the Groote Wielenlaan in Rosmalen. The victim got a wooden shelf against his head, landed on the floor and was kicked in his ribs and neck. His friend jumped in between and chased the perpetrators away.
Youth prison and fine
All mistreatments were filmed and some were even shared on Snapchat. During the investigation, the police were able to retrieve the videos and the three men were arrested. The three men have been sentenced to 18 months of youth prison. For two perpetrators, 12 months of these are conditional and the third of them are conditional. All three have a probationary period of two years and have to pay a fine.
