The Italian and the Spanish defending champion are an exciting duel – which takes a surprising turn with increasing course.
Jannik Sinner is the winner of the traditional Tennis tournament in Wimbledon for the first time in his career. In the most excited final against the two -time defending champion Carlos Alcaraz, the Italian world ranking list prevailed 4: 6, 6: 4, 6: 4 and 6: 4. It is the fourth Grand Slam title for the 23-year-old, who also succeeded in revenge for the defeat in the Finale of the French Open a month ago.
Sinner showed aggressive tennis right from the start. The Italian attacked Alcaraz’s second surcharge early on, brought the Spaniard into trouble and took the premium for the first time to 3: 2. But Alcaraz also increased speed and precision in the long rallies, the break brought back. Sinner seemed struck, got more and more on the defensive, lost four games in a row. At the set ball, Alcaraz countered a crashing forehand of the South Tyrolean along the line by return in the failure. Sinner slipped twice on the leaked grass behind the baseline, but did not let it get out of it, as did the concept of the most curious scene of the finals: the cork of the champagne bottle of a fan landed just next to him when he wanted to open, and was disposed of by Sinner.
The Italian also led 4: 2 in the second set, but did not miss the lead this time. With three brilliant counter strokes, he got his service to 6: 4 and climbed his hand wildly. The Spaniard tried desperately in the further course to break the rhythm of Sinner with stop balls. But he kept ruining the plan. Sinner acted more and more confidently, improved better after he had not managed to do two sentences for two sentences. In phases it became spectacular: Sinner played a volley through his legs, but then thundered the overhead ball into the end.
Nevertheless, he got the third round and also managed the early break to 3: 1 in the fourth set by return winner. Sinner briefly wobbled again, but after 3:04 hours he was allowed to cheer.
The match for reading in the ticker:
4th set, 4: 6, 6: 4, 6: 4, 6: 4 – The match is over. Jannik Sinner is Wimbledon Champion 2025. Alcaraz tries everything again in this last game, but it shouldn’t be for the Spaniard that evening. First he ends up with a forehand, then Sinner adds a backhand longline. Alcaraz fights like a lion, wants to reach every ball again, hurries from one line to another, is hunted by Sinner – until he can no longer get a volley of the Italian. At 40: 0, Sinner has three match balls. Alcaraz is not beaten, counters with a sharp return, shortens again. Sinner puts himself on a serve again. Get air. The ball flies up, the Italian hits him perfectly-and seals his first title win in London with a service winner. Then he goes to his knees, shakes his head, knocks on the lawn again and again, cannot believe it. Sinner runs the stairs up into his box, celebrates with his coaching team.
In the end, it is a completely deserved victory for the South Tyrolean in a final that could not meet the very big expectations that Paris’s historical final between the two had aroused. Alcaraz was particularly prone to errors over the game period. Sinner, on the other hand, found the game better and better after initial problems, made the more stable, more focused impression. The world rankings remained calm, played his game confidently and is now rightly on the winner list of Wimbledon.
