Do you feel as young/old as you are?

“It feels like I’m in the prime of my life. I am 38 years old and all the puzzle pieces seem to fall together. As a vocal DJ in the house scene I have been working on the road within the music industry for years – a world that is still strongly dominated by men.”

“I already had a lot of bookings in the past year, but since the reality series of Yolanthe it is really crazy house. My reach has exploded: where I had around 50,000 views on Instagram, I now tap the million. My taptok is growing at lightning speed and I am even recognizable on the street. I am very grateful for that.”

How did you become friends with Yolanthe?

“We got to know each other through a neighbor, and now we have been best friends for more than twenty years. The very first time I saw her, she walked past me on the street – she was one of the most beautiful girls I had ever seen. We got talking and decided to keep in touch via MSN.”

“Not long afterwards, Yolanthe invited me to visit Hilversum. At home I made up an excuse, because I was not allowed to travel by train. She picked me up from the station and together we talked endlessly about our dreams and ambitions. I wanted to become a singer, she actress. On her bedroom we did not forget a pact, the other would come to the dream, would be on the day, would be true, would be on the dream. From today, she has always supported my career. ”

Last year was intense: on the one hand I turned my best season ever – even Netflix came my way – but behind the scenes there was everything. I had heartbreak, lost a loved one and Yo was seriously injured by a fall of a horse.”

“At the same time, I got more and more bothered by my back. I was struggling with wear in different places and it started to seriously influence my work. Just before a set of two hours, I was literally in tears of pain. Exercising has really been my salvation in it. By strengthening the surrounding muscles, I can now stand longer and I feel both physically and mentally stronger than ever.”
