Anyone who goes on holiday through Schiphol from today must take into account considerable crowds. The airport expects around 13 million travelers until the end of August, which is more than 7 percent more than last year. That is more than 200,000 travelers who leave, arrive or switch every day.
That means: long queues at the check -in counter, the passport control and the security. Schiphol advises travelers to arrive on time and to keep a close eye on the pressures. And be well in time, two hours in advance for flights within Europe and three hours before intercontinental journeys is the advice.
According to Schiphol, Spain, the United Kingdom and Greece are the most popular destinations this summer.
Extreme crowds on the roads
That is not all: Schiphol is also more difficult to reach by car from tomorrow. Due to work on the A4 between the Hoek and Burgerveen junction, the travel time can rise considerably. There, lanes are closed and you can be a maximum of 70 kilometers per hour. Rijkswaterstaat replaces the asphalt between 11 July and 20 August.
Rijkswaterstaat warns of delays of up to an hour. Motorists are advised to leave on time or to choose alternative routes. Schiphol advises travelers to take public transport.
