Switzerland had to cope with a late shock against Finland. But a goal in added time still secured the progress.

At the women’s football championship, the hosts from Switzerland trembled to the quarter-finals. In the group finals, the Swiss Consumers achieved a dramatic 1-1 draw against Finland in added time with a goal from Riola Xhemalli.

Due to the better goal difference compared to the tied finishes (both four points), they moved into the KO round as a group of the same point (both four points). Previously, Finland had taken the lead through a converted penalty of Natalia Kuikka in the 80th minute. In the round of 16, Switzerland is now facing a duel with world champion Spain.

Meanwhile, Norway secured the group victory. The Scandinavians also won their last group game against Iceland with 4: 3 and made the leap below the last eight with the full point yield of nine points.

In the fight for the second quarter-final ticket, Finland in Geneva put pressure on Switzerland in the first few minutes. However, the hosts increasingly took over the game control, but initially did not take advantage of their chances. The Finns held well against it, a balanced duel developed. But even after the break, Switzerland was too inefficient, then it became bitter: Viola Calligaris brought out the penalty area Emma Koivisto, Kuikka converted the penalty. But Xhemaili redeemed Switzerland.
