Van der Poel is approaching Wout Wagtmans in eternal ranking
Mathieu van der Poel was allowed to put on a yellow sweater for the tenth time in the Tour de France on Thursday after the sixth stage. The Alpecin-Deceuninck rider is therefore approaching Wout Wagtmans on the eternal ranking of Dutch gatherers.
That list is – for the time being unsuccessed – led by Joop Zoetemelk. The one -off Tour winner (1980) received the yellow jersey 22 times between 1971 and 1980. Wout Wagtmans rode twelve days in yellow between 1954 and 1956.
Van der Poel has the chance to surpass Wagtmans in the coming days, provided he recovers well from his efforts. On Friday a ride will follow to Mûr-de-Bretagne that is made for him. This is followed by two flat journeys. Only Monday must be seriously climbed in the Tour.
