The Ministry of Defense wants to buy Kempen Airport in Budel and has concluded an intention agreement with the owner of the airport. Sources confirm this to Omroep WNL. The mayor called by Defense on Wednesday. This gives Brabant a sixth military airport.
In addition to the airport in Budel, the Nassau-Dietzkazerne and the Weerterheide are also in the picture to expand the Defense training ground. The mayor of the municipality of Cranendonck, which includes Budel, was called by the Ministry of Defense on Wednesday about the new plans around the airport.
Defense occasionally uses Kempen Airport, but with the purchase they are allowed according to WNL Determine in the future about the use of the airport. The airport is now mainly used for teaching flights and small business flights.
A spokesperson for the municipality told Omroep Brabant that he cannot say anything else about the sale of the airport. “We are waiting for what will happen,” said the municipality of Cranendonck.
Budel
At the end of May, Defense presented the expansion plans for the entire country. It was also announced that the barracks in Budel will again get a military destination and that the adjacent Weerterheide is being expanded with more practice area and a practice village, the second ‘village’ in our country because there is now only one in Groningen.
But in those plans, strikingly enough there was no landing place for the transport helicopters with soldiers in Budel and Weert and the surrounding area. Now it seems that the Ministry of Defense had already dropped the eye on the nearby Brabant airport.
This gives Brabant the sixth military airport, next to Woensdrecht, Gilze-Rijen. Volkel, Eindhoven and De Peel (Half Limburgs)
