From today, train traffic between Assen and Groningen is completely quiet for a total of three days. This is due to the final phase of the renovation of the Groningen main station.
Between Assen and Groningen, buses are used today, tomorrow and Saturday. Travelers must take extra travel time into account.
In the past period, the Groningen main station was no longer accessible by rail, but the trains from Assen still visited Groningen Europapark. That is therefore no longer the case these days.
There is currently no train traffic in almost the entire province of Groningen. The only train that will run in the coming days is that between Zuidhorn and Leeuwarden.
The renovation of the main station in Groningen started in 2019 and must ensure that there is more room for trains. Regional travelers will no longer have to switch because the regional traces are being extended. This requires more traces and platforms.
The Groningen train station will open again on Sunday, but it is not yet finished. For example, bicycle parking facilities still have to be installed under the station. The bus station also moves from the center side to the south side of the station.
