The park cemetery in Roeselare for example. That is pretty much the Père Lachaise or the Campo Santo van Roeselare. Upon entering you immediately see the long avenue under the trees. So much green, and that feeling of peace and quiet. We went looking for the grave of Albrecht Rodenbach. With the lion on it. At the same time, at this old cemetery from time to time you sometimes think about huge family bones. They impress you. You feel small. You also see different ‘burial chapels’ of the ‘Nieuwmarkters’ here. And part of the cemetery is the last resting place of the British, French and Flemish soldiers who died during the war.
We also walked to the Moermanpark. That has been a park for a few weeks, and no more ‘parking’. What a huge difference! Road concrete, today a green place. With an architectural construction they also make a reference to the past of this site – the place of the Moerman Frères textile factory at the end of the 19th century.
On the route we also saw a lot of street art, we enjoyed the reconstruction of the Conickplein – certainly do not forget to register here for ‘Kunstuur’ in the Sint -Amandskerk.
For those who love ‘beer’ – the Rodenbach brewery is also on the route. In the ‘Foederhuis’ you can go for a tour, and a snack and (of course) a drink. ‘Foeder’ is ‘a barrel’ by the way – those large old oak barrels, where you can still walk in between.
