After their victory over Denmark, the DFB women are already in the EM quarter-finals. A top opponent is probably already waiting there.

It was hard work, but at the end of success: In her second EM group game, the German national women’s team prevailed 2-1 against Denmark after 0-1 behind. After the 2-0 win at the start of Poland, the DFB women are already in the quarter-finals prematurely.

In the last group game, the eleven of national coach Christian Wück dueled with Sweden for first place in Group C. The final placement then also depends on which opponents the German selection would hit in the quarter -finals. Because as a group winner, Germany would have to deal with the group runners -up of Group D. The group winner of Group D would wait as the group second.

Either way, it will be a very heavy opponent, because Group D is the so -called “horror group” of the tournament at the European Championship. With the Netherlands, France and England, three top teams argue about the first two places that allow participation in the quarter -finals. With Wales, the fourth team is considered an absolute outsider.

The Netherlands are currently leading Group D after its 3-0 opening success against Wales. France, which England defeated 2-1 in the first game, is in second place. England took third place and Wales fourth.

Stand now Germany, which is currently taking place behind Sweden due to the poorer goal difference around a goal, which is currently the worse goal difference. However, everything is still open and every team of group D could still reach any placement.

However, the picture should be a little clearer on Wednesday evening. Then England and the Netherlands as well as France and Wales meet on the second matchday. If the Netherlands and France win the duels, they have also been determined as a quarter -final participants. They would then determine the group winner in direct duel on the last matchday, just like Sweden and Germany in Group C – and thus also the final quarter -finals.
