Mariangel has lived in Finland for half of his life so far. At the age of 13, he moved to Finland from Venezuela, where the conditions were challenging. However, the situation in the country was not restless throughout childhood.

“Venezuela’s situation began to get worse about 18 years ago,” Mariangel says.

At the age of ten, Mariangel was shot with her mother and her male friend, which was a traumatic experience. After the event, Mariangel suffered from panic and anxiety disorder. At that time, the home was located in Caracas, which he thinks at that time as one of the most dangerous cities in the world. The conditions affected everything in everyday life. It was only possible to play with friends in the gated yard and could not go anywhere alone.

– My grandmother always took me to school, she says.

Often, his mother came from work with a bruise, if someone, for example, tried to take his phone. Mariangel’s aunt was kidnapped three times.

“There was a shortage of food, water and electricity,” Velasquez describes.

Mariangel’s father moved to Spain 20 years ago. The intention was that Mariangel would move there with her mother, but with the divorce, this plan was canceled. In Spain, his father met the Finnish woman, Mariangel’s mother, and moved to Finland 18 years ago. Later, Mariangel followed. His life in Finland began in Herttoniemi’s home. The first thing he drew attention was freedom.

– I remember that I was in the mood that I was able to walk to school, he describes.

The circumstances changed anyway. In childhood, Mariangel’s father sent money to Venezuela, who then lived. You couldn’t afford your hobbies.

– When I came to Finland, Dad asked what I wanted to do. I want to do music, I want to do theater, I want to do everything. My life changed completely, he describes.

Mariangel believes that his performance and music background is also a strength in the Missions.

– I’ve always been a really extrovert. I like to be featured, I’m not terribly excited. I’m really confident, I love to be on stage. I will take the most out of this trip, Mariangel promises.
