Bitter start for the English national team in the European Championship: The “Three Lionesses” lose against France-and are under pressure.

The European champions from England surprisingly lost their opening match into the European Championship in Switzerland. The defending champion had to give up 1: 2 (0: 2) in Zurich France on Saturday evening in Zurich and is already standing with his back to the wall after a game.

For the title defense mission, the selection of trainer Sarina Wiegmann must now win her second group game against the Dutch, who previously won their opening match against Wales 3-0. Wiegmann had won the European Championship with the national team of her home country in 2017. The title with the English followed in 2022. On Wednesday (from 6 p.m. in the live ticker at T-Online) there is now a decisive duel between the two nations. The game takes place again in Zurich.

England initially took the lead against France. Alessia Russo had used a dusted 1-0 to be acclaimed. Due to an offside position from teammate Beth Mead, however, video referee Christian Dingert intervened. The goal was then revoked (17th minute).

The French shocked England shortly afterwards with a double strike. Marie-Antoinette Katoto scored this time, (36th), Sandy Baltimore increased only three minutes later (39.). This goal was also checked by Dingert in advance due to a possible foul game. This time the goal of the review was withstanding.

France then missed several chances of the decision in the second round. England wiggled in question, but shortened shortly before the end by Keira Walsh (87th). However, it was not enough.
