Nigeria cries one of its great ones. Peter Rufai, goalkeeper of the Super Eagles at the 1994 and 1998 World Cup, died at 61 in Lagos after a long illness. This was announced by the Nigerian football federation. Commonly known as Dodomayana, Rufai has collected 65 appearances with Nigeria and participated in two final stages of the World Cup. He was also part of the team that won the Africa Cup in Tunisia in 1994, beating Zambia 2-1.

Rufai played for several Nigerian clubs before moving abroad, Benin, Belgium, Netherlands, Portugal and Spain.
