Inditex appoints new director for Zara Kids

Lorenzo Marcheselli, who previously headed the Italian business of the Spanish fashion group Inditex, has been appointed the new Director of Zara Kids.

He follows Begoña Costas, who withdraws in the company after a 46-year career, as the Spanish specialist magazine Modaes reports. Costas, a key figure in the organizational chart of Zara, leaves a career that was characterized by the consolidation of children’s fashion from the start. This includes milestones such as taking over Kiddy’s Class 2022.

With almost two decades at Inditex, Marcheselli has extensive international experience. He started in Zara branches in Ravenna and Florence. He later took over the management of the branches in the UK and Ireland as well as the Zara trade management in Europe. He has headed the Italian market since 2018. Bárbara Bastianelli, who was previously a trade director for Europe and Asia, is now taking over this position. Like her predecessor Bastianelli started her career in a branch. This pattern underlines Inditex’s focus on internal talent promotion.

This relay handover takes place in a dynamic environment for Zara Kids. In the past few months, the brand has set new offers such as the Z3D line for teenagers: inside and collaborations such as the German label Closed. Zara, which makes up more than 70 percent of Inditex’s sales and profits, generated sales of 27.778 billion euros in 2024 and a profit before taxes of 5.407 billion euros. In the children’s fashion segment, Zara remains one of the most important actors in Spain and thus strengthens its strategic role within the Galician Group.
