Exhibition ‘Monomania’ by Fiona Tan in the Rijksmuseum is lessons in empathy: ‘I was quite obsessed’
A portrait of a insane man, better known as a portrait of a Kleptoman, of the French painter Théodore Géricault was the start of an eight -year search for artist Fiona Tan. She wanted to know who the man was and what mentally disease he led exactly. Her research resulted in the Monomania exhibition, which can be seen in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam this summer. “I was also quite obsessed myself.”
