The Zeeheldenbuurt in Hoogeveen will have 200 new houses. They arrive at the place where there are still 148 social rental homes. They will soon go down.

According to Housing Corporation Actium, the technical quality of the social rental homes is poor and sustainability is not an option. That is why it was decided to build completely new rental houses. The new building consists of family homes and apartments. 94 parking spaces are also being installed.

The current homes must be empty at the latest on November 1, 2026. These are houses on the Ruyterstraat, Karel Doormanstraat, Kortenaerstraat, Piet Heinstraat and Trompstraat. According to Actium, the demolition starts in the first quarter of 2027. Then the construction of the new -build homes can start.

Actium has only been the owner of the social rental properties since this month. The organization took over from Housing Concept. The acquisition is part of an agreement between several housing associations in Zuidwest-Drenthe.

Another part of that agreement gives Housing Concept 15 million euros, it became clear last month. In this way they can speed up their rental properties. The sustainability of those buildings is lagging behind other rental houses in the Zuidwest-Drenthe region.
