The hosts start strongly in their home tournament. But then the game takes an unexpected course. The events roll over in the final phase.
False start for Switzerland to the European Championship of women in their own country: The hosts lost the opening game of the European Championship with 1: 2 (1-0) against Norway.
Nadine Riesen had given Switzerland in Basel on Wednesday evening (28th), in the second halves two heavy mistakes led to the goals: After a blackout by goalkeeper Livia Peng, Ada Hegerberg scored (54.), then Julia Stierli underwent an own goal (58th). A few minutes later, Hegerberg missed the chance to further increase for Norway, shot a penalty next to the goal (70th). In return, Switzerland had PECH that a possible penalty was canceled due to an offside position by the video evidence (VAR) (71.).
A colorful opening show including the choreo had initially awarded the hosts to the Captain Lia Wälti from FC Arsenal, who had become fit in time. Above all, the strong outer rail players giant and Iman Beney interpreted their role offensive. The lead was therefore deserved, especially since the Géraldine Reuteler, which was also under contract in Frankfurt, had shortened the ball onto the crossbar shortly before from 18 meters.
Norway about defense chief Tuva Hansen from FC Bayern initially remained rather passive. That changed after the break. After a corner kick, Hegerberg only hit the head to equalize. And in keeping with the first delicate “Norge, Norge” calls from the small guest block, Stierli grabbed the ball into his own goal when attempting to rescue. Goalkeeper Livia Peng, who changes from Werder Bremen to Chelsea, even reflexively prevented the 1: 3 against Hegerberg.
Sundhage reacted, brought the 18 -year -old super talent Sydney Traucen body from FC Barcelona. The Swiss people were now pressing, but were also lucky that Hegerberg pushed the ball from the point pitiful. In return, the video evidence prevented a possible penalty for the hosts, who spent a lot in the final phase, but remained lucky in the final.
