… better and better!
The transfer market database is enriched by another milestone. The season of the Regionalliga Südwest 1964/65 is completely integrated. The 1st FC Saarbrücken, who came up with a special feature during the season. On the 16th matchday on December 6, 1964 after a 3-2 against Ludwigshafener SC, the FCS took the lead and did not give it up until the end of the season. Nevertheless, the club changed the trainer in between-after a 1: 5 defeat at the end of January, Helmut Schneider was replaced by the later national coach Jupp Derwall.
Derwall celebrated the championship with the Saarlanders with eight points ahead of Wormatia Worms, but in the subsequent promotion round, however, there was no way to get past the later German serial champion Bayern Munich. Even with top scorer Emil Poklitar in his own ranks, who scored 27 goals in 30 games and contributed three more in the promotion parts, the class change could not be made perfect.
The Wormatia meanwhile took the last place in its group in the fight for the promotion, Borussia Mönchengladbach prevailed, with which Saarbrücken and Worms had to compete for another year in the regional league.
