After 13 years, Álex Baena says goodbye to FC Villarreal. The 23 -year -old wing striker joins Atlético Madrid, where he signed a contract until 2030. With Baena, the yellow submarine loses its most valuable player, the market value of the left wing is estimated at 55 million euros. At ATlético, he is now the second most valuable in Diego Simeone team.

According to matching media reports, Rojiblancos will transfer 45 million euros to Baena’s services, to which another 5 million euros can come to bonuses. This makes it the most expensive sale in Villarreal club history and sorts down in fifth place on the record access at Atlético. Originally he still had a valid contract until 2028.
Baena leaves Villarreal after 148 games in which he posted 26 goals and 40 templates. In 2021 he became the European League winner with his youth club. With the national team, he also celebrated the European title last summer and then the gold medal with the Olympic selection. At Atlético he is the third external newcomer this summer after midfielder Matteo Ruggeri and goalkeeper Juan Musso. The expenses increase with Baena to 65 million euros.
