The family of Italy’s deceased ex-Minister Silvio Berlusconi sold their shares in the AC Monza soccer club to a US investor.
As announced by the Fininvest company on Tuesday, the American investment fund Beckett Layne Ventures (BLV) takes over full control over the second division club from Lombardy. Initially, 80 percent of the shares are to be transferred in summer, the rest will follow by June 2026 at the latest.
Nothing was officially known about the price. However, Italian media reported on Tuesday of a total volume of around 45 million euros, including around 15 million euros to pay debts.
Berlusconi, who died in 2023 at the age of 86, had taken over Monza 2018. Previously, he had shaped European football with AC Milan for decades.
Under his leadership, Monza for the first time was promoted to series A in 2022. After three years in the upper house, the club rose again in the past season.
BLV is run by the former Chelsea manager Brandon Berger. The fund specializes in investments in sports and entertainment. The takeover is a trend: there are now eight series A clubs in American hands-including AC and Inter Milan and Atalanta Bergamo.
