Charly Musonda was blessed with a lot of talent at a young age. But the big career failed to materialize. Now he draws a line under his career.

Charles “Charly” Musonda was once a great hope in Chelsea’s youngsters-now the former Belgian junior international has surprisingly announced his end of his career.

In an interview with “Rising Ballers”, the 28-year-old said that he had “thought about resignation in the past few years”. In the future he wanted to do things with “purpose”. “I want to inspire and motivate people,” said Musundo.

Then he announced the end of his profile career: “I make a decision today. It is a decision with which I wrestled for a long time, but I will end my career as a professional.” But he doesn’t want to say goodbye to football. “I will continue to work in football. In functions in which I can help players to develop and give them the opportunity to show how good they are.”

Musonda moved from the RSC Anderlecht to the Chelsea youth academy in 2012 and played there with later national players such as Mason Mount, Ruben Loftus-Cheek or Tammy Abraham. The technically experienced offensive player was once one of the greatest talents among the Londoners.

But again and again injuries threw him back – especially a serious knee injury in the Arnhem jersey in August 2019, after which he was no longer on the pitch for almost three years.

In his career, Musonda played for Real Betis, Celtic Glasgow, Vitesse and Levant. With the Scots he became champion and cup winner in 2018. Musonda played his last professional game in January 2024 for the Cyprical second division club Doxa Catokopias. Overall, he comes to only 82 missions in the professional sector.

Despite previous hopes, it was not enough for the Belgian national team-Musonda was only used at the junior level.
