The German time trial champion Maximilian Schachmann runs on the 112nd Tour de France alongside double Olympic champion Remco Evenepoel.
This emerges from Tuesday (July 1st, 2025) of the Soudal Quick-Step team. In addition to classification drivers Evenepoel, over the past year, tour debutant Tim Merlier goes to the tour of France as a co-captain for the sprint arrivals.
Schachmann should primarily be in demand as a helper, but also receive freedom for outlier groups.
“Capable of beautiful things”
“We have a strong and experienced team that is capable of some beautiful things this summer, and so we start with a lot of confidence,” said sporting director Tom Steels.
Evenepoel emphasized a “good” overall position: “But the most important thing will be not to lose time in the first half of the race, because it should be very nervous, with many traps and tricky streets.”
Start on Saturday in Lille
The tour starts on Saturday with a 184.9 -kilometer flat stage around Lille.
