Douwe Bob has provided controversy by walking away last weekend at a sporting event for Jewish children. He would perform there, but saw posters with the word ‘Zionism’ and that is why he blew things off. Incredible, says VVD leader Dilan Yesilgöz. She spoke her horror in a spicy message on X.

Hatred

It is outrageous, says Dilan. “Eighty years after ‘this never’ happens again. Daily. In Amsterdam. Children are refused for who they are: Jewish. It will not even make the news. So normal has become Jewish hatred. Pure hatred, in full sight,” it sounded. Well, in the end it was broadly measured in the news.

The singer was furious and cried in the talk show Van Renze Klamer: “I am now threatened with death and that is because of things like that.”

Shocked

Dilan reacted shocked. On X: “The way Douwe Bob acted should never be reason to threaten him. Never. And that is what apparently happens now. But you fight words with words. Always. Threat of Douwe Bob and his family, I find unacceptable.”

“I still think that Douwe Bob could and should have tackled the situation differently. For example, by speaking with the organization on the spot. (…) I have suggested drinking a cup of coffee with Douwe soon, so that we can look each other in the eyes and share with each other where the pain is.”

Declaration?

Douwe has no ears. “I want apologies. She knows that it is bullshit what she does and she is disappointed. I chose not to sue. But it made little difference. I want to spend my time on positive things and continue connecting,” he says in a written response to the talk show Humberto.

Host Humberto Tan denounces Dilan’s behavior. “The striking thing is: Yesilgöz has seen Douwe Bob at the opening of the Holocaust Museum. He played there. In fact, she was in the first row where he played. He played on May 4. So she accused him of hatred of Jews, as she knew he played here.”

Extra

Political reporter Frits Wester also finds that strange. “That makes it extra bitter. Then you also know that the boy may have a very different character and he may have meant it very differently. (…) Perhaps an employee has climbed a little too smoothly in the keyboard for her. It is so unwise.”

What do they think of the Oranjezomer? Onno Hoes: “Very frankly I was shocked by that tweet.”

And Olcay Gulsen: “It’s outside all proportions.”
