First big surprise in Wimbledon

Daniil Medledew narrowly missed the final at the traditional tournament last year. This time is the end station for the Zverev fright.
The Wimbledon stay from Daniil Medvedev this year ended after the first game. The former world ranking list lost his opening game against the Frenchman Benjamin Bonzi with 6: 7 (2: 7), 6: 3, 6: 7 (3: 7), 2: 6. This time the Russian, which was in the semi -finals in the two previous years, was surprisingly early.
Bonzi had not won a match in the main field of a lawn tournament before the duel since 2022. Medvedev, on the other hand, had presented itself in strong form just eight days earlier with his final in Halle.
For the 29-year-old Medvedev it is the next disappointment at a Grand Slam this year. In Melbourne he failed in the second round, already in Paris at the start. In Wimbledon there could have been a possible quarter -finals against Alexander Zverev. Medvedev had won twelve of the past 14 duels against the German.
Stefanos Tsitsipas has already left. The Greek gave up his game against the Frenchman Valentin Royer at 3: 6, 2: 6 prematurely – apparently because of back problems. At high temperatures in the southwest of Londons, Tsitsipas seemed struck. The two-time Grand Slam finalist was only in position 24 in Wimbledon this year.
