Friederike “Fritzi” Kromp is the new trainer of Werder Bremen’s women’s team. At her imagination, she explains why Mertesacker shares have a change to the Weser.

It has been clear since April that TV expert Friederike “Fritzi” Kromp will train the Werder Bremen women’s Bundesliga team in the coming season. According to his own statement, this also has to do with a prominent advocate.

Her ZDF colleague and the former Werder professional Per Mertesacker got her to change, the 40-year-old revealed during her introductory press conference on Monday in Bremen. “He spoke of his past at Werder and his friendship with Clemens Fritz. I could only advise and recommend doing it. He encouraged me in my decision,” said Kromp.

Kromp has been working as a ZDF expert since 2022. At the same time, she trained the German U17 national team and the U20 juniors of Eintracht Frankfurt in the past two years.

In Bremen, she is now following Thomas Horsch, who had left the SVW at the end of the past season. She described her move to Bremen as “a longer journey that I was allowed to go through there. My first thought was: that is far away at home,” said Kromp. “I am from Würzburg, have 15 years in Munich lived, studied, worked and was now in two years in Frankfurt. And Frankfurt felt like the northernmost for me, which I could imagine. “

But: Bremen has “a certain flair and the club anyway,” said the new trainer. “There is a lot of power from the traditional club Werder Bremen, which I could really feel.”
