The children cannot wait until they can step into the boat. But first it’s time for the theory. For example, where should you be in the boat. “You must always have a view of your sail,” an instructor explains to a boy.
In addition to sailing, they also learn to kayaking and how to deal with a SUP (stand-up paddleboard). It all turns out to be quite difficult when the children start their practical lessons. “We got wet, but luckily not fallen into the water. It was great,” say two girls.
Doing experiments with water
And with sailing alone it did not remember in recent days. Because the young participants could also work as small scientists. In the water laboratory they did different experiments together with instructors. In this way they learned more about water quality, buoyancy and the importance of clean water.
The Waterweek has been organized for more than ten years. In the Oosterhaven there was plenty to do on both and next to the water. “Every day has its own peak,” says volunteer Margo Kalverboer. “Friday is popular because of the food and music. Saturday is all about the nautical atmosphere, with cruises and large ships that you can visit. Every moment has its own charm.”
And certainly with the warm weather it is mainly for the children to enjoy the water. “It was really great,” say two girls. “We will definitely be back next year.”
