A thunderstorm again delayed the journey of FC Bayern to Miami to the round of 16 of the club World Cup. A player reveals how the stars used the waiting time.

Julian Buhl reports from Miami

FC Bayern experienced a déjà vu on Saturday evening. As in the group game of the club World Cup against the Boca Juniors (2-1) a week ago, the Munich team was also stopped by force majeure when returning to Miami for the round of 16 on Sunday (from 4 p.m. in the T-Online Liveticker).

Once again, a storm front delayed the start of the short flight from Orlando to Fort Lauderdale, from where Bayern then continued by bus to neighboring Miami. Actually, it is important to cover only 295 flight kilometers. Due to the difficult weather conditions, Bayern’s charter machine was only able to withdraw with almost 120 minutes late.

When the Munich team finally arrived at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami to the pressing rounds announced there, the waiting reporters looked into surprisingly relaxed faces. “It was just a Thunderstorm (thunderstorm; editor’s note) about Orlando,” said Konrad Laimer calmly: “Then we just eat a little later – and then go to sleep.” Josip Stanišić described the events just as calmly. However, the Croatian also revealed the reason for the striking Bavarian serenity.

The stars of the German record champion even had fun at the waiting time. “We were on the bus, we usually play Mario Kart,” said Stanišić. The popular car racing game on the game console is very popular with Bayern professionals. “It didn’t go so well for me today, so I was a little mad,” joked Stanišić. The 25-year-old also revealed which character he prefers to play with.

“With the Yoshi. Everyone drives with the Yoshi. I think that’s the best driver you can drive. Sometimes it comes hot.” And who wins in the children’s video game? “You have to say: Rapha is the best,” said Stanišić. No wonder. The Raphaël Guerreiro mentioned finally has two children who were born in 2015 and 2016, and is also good in practice. Immediately afterwards, Leon Goretzka, who is still childless), comes in the team of the team, says Stanišić.

Incidentally, it is not the first replica of a Bayern star on the popular video game. Konrad Laimer already had the solo run of his team-mate Michael Olise, whom he completed in December to 5-1 final in the Champions League against Schachtar Donetsk. “He felt through ten players,” said Laimer to T-Online at the time (you can read more about this here). “It was like Mario Kart if you get a star and nobody touches him.”
