Sauber team boss Jonathan Wheatley has only praise for Nico Hülkenberg before the Grand Prix of Austria.
“His professionalism, his way of tackling a Grand Prix weekend, his measures-as I see it, he has the overall package,” said the Brit. Wheatley has been the team leader of the traditional racing team since April 2025, and after just a few months it was “a pleasure” to work with the Emmerich.
In general, the mood seems to be solved. “We build up a momentum, the energy is good,” said Wheatley. The reason for this is likely to be Hülkenberg’s strong achievements. In the last two Grand Prix, the German had taken the points, Hülkenberg chased his third place in the points in a row at the Red Bull Ring on Sunday (3:00 p.m./Sky).
“He clearly enjoys the upgrades on the car and his time at clean, he delivers,” said Wheatley.
In the first two training sessions on Friday, Hülkenberg missed the top 10 despite the improved underbody. After twelve, the 37-year-old only ranked 19 for the early Friday evening. His team-mate Gabriel Bortoleto was eighth, apparently Hülkenberg concentrated primarily on the racing trim.
