In a very exciting final, the Orange under 19 did it slightly better than the peers from Spain. Both teams were given opportunities in the Romanian Bucharest and did not escape each other much. Because of a luck, the Dutch talents took the lead. A Spain’s own goal after more than an hour of play was the only goal of this European Championship final.
Top scorer
Where the Orange defeated the previous matches every opponent with eye -catching football, it was more to Spain against Werklust against Spain. That also applied to Kees Smit. The attacking midfielder of AZ was dangerous a few times, but could not score this time. In this way he stands on four hits and shares the top scorer title with Pablo García.
Smit got away well in the last minute. He committed a violation in his own penalty area, but the referee did not think it was enough for a penalty.
In addition to Smit, three other AZ’ers come out for this Orange: Kasper Boogard, Kiyani say and Elijah Dijkstra.
