IOC wants to lead discussion about gender criteria
6.03 pm: The International Olympic Committee (IOC) will lead the discussions about gender criteria for participating in sport. That is what the new chairman Kirsty Coventry said in Lausanne on Thursday. She made this ruling four years after the administrative body encouraged the sports associations to assess issues themselves independently.
Coventry, who this week after the ceremony in Lausanne as the first woman and first African officially took over the chairmanship from Thomas Bach, said she now wants the IOC to “protect the female category”. She announced the establishment of a working group that will lead these discussions and another to evaluate the election process for future Olympic guest cities.
For a long time, the IOC has been refusing to apply universal rules to the participation of transgender people in the Games and instructed international federations to develop their own guidelines in 2021.
National coach Doudesis selects fifteen water polosters for World Cup
3.40 pm: National coach Evangelos Doudesis has selected the fifteen water polosters with which the team participates in the World Cup in Singapore. Lois den Ouden has lost weight of the provisional selection of sixteen players.
The water polosters will compete against China, Argentina and the United States at the World Cup from 11 to 23 July. The team became world champion in 2023 and in 2024 in its own country European champion. At the Paris Olympic Games last summer, the water polosters conquered bronze.
The Dutch team still plays a four -country tournament in Budapest. After victories in Greece (16-12) and host country Hungary (15-12), the Dutch are still playing against New Zealand on Thursday.

No public go ahead Eagles in season opener at Fortuna
12.47 pm: Go Ahead Eagles plays the first game of the season at Fortuna Sittard on 8 August without its own supporters. The club from Deventer reports that the punishment is the result of disorderly after fireworks incidents in the match against PSV in the semi-final of the KNVB cup.

11.59 am: The Dutch 3×3 basketball players have qualified for the interim round at the World Cup in Mongolia. In Ulaanbaatar, the team beat the Czech Republic in the last group match 21-15 and finished third. Hungary is the opponent in the interim round.

David Gaudu reverses Tour de France
10.53 am: David Gaudu does not start in the Tour de France. The 28-year-old classification rider has decided with his team Groupama-FDJ to skip the Tour, because his shape is not good enough, he himself reported to the French news agency AFP.
“As far as my current level is concerned, I have been transparent against the team. We therefore decided to skip the Tour this year,” said Gaudu, who finished fourth in the Tour de France in 2022. “It is a big disappointment, especially because the Tour will be in Brittany this year and my loved ones could see me there.”
Gaudu has a difficult season, in which he fell several times. He finished 66th in the Giro d’Italia, in which he sustained injuries to his right hand due to a fall. The Frenchman started the season with a stage victory in the Tour of Oman.
Gaudu participated in the Tour seven times in a row. In addition to fourth place in 2022, he finished ninth in 2023.
