Borussia Dortmund has reached the round of 16 of the club World Cup in the USA. BVB deservedly won against Ulsan HD, but also made it unnecessarily exciting.

Thanks to defender Daniel Svensson, Borussia Dortmund has reached the round of 16 of the club World Cup. The Swede shot the goal of the day over the 1-0 victory over the South Korean outsider Ulsan HD. Svensson scored in Cincinnati after 36 minutes for the acclaimed victory.

The BVB could have screwed up the result as a result, if not. Again and again the Bundesliga club’s offensive despaired to Ulsan goalkeeper Jo, who showed several strong parades. So the “black and yellow” had to worry about success until the end, but ultimately brought the result over time.

Dortmund ended the preliminary round of the competition with seven points and thus the first of the group F. against who the team of coach Niko Kovač has to compete in the round of the last 16. The game will take place in Atlanta next Wednesday at 3 a.m. in German.

The BVB could have taken the lead in the second minute, but Serhou Guirassy missed a first good opportunity. A weak game developed in which Dortmund searched for gaps on the defensive of the South Koreans. Often, however, there was no speed and precision in the passes, more by chance the BVB came to two top chances: First Guirassy missed, then Jobe Bellingham (27th) shot the ball volley over the goal. Svensson, who kept an overview in the penalty area, did better.

Dortmund continued to grip the game, but, despite some good approaches, missed expanding its lead. That almost avoided when Jin-Hyun Lee (60th) gave a chance to compensate. A little later, Gregor Kobel had to intervene again, angrily he was bridging his team, which Ulsan kept allowing.

Coach Niko Kovač, who brought three fresh players after a good hour. However, the substitute Julian Brandt, Maximilian Beier and Julian Duranville at first no longer brought through the punch. So it remained exciting in the final phase, even if Ulsan radiated little in total.
