A previously unpublished work by the deceased director David Lynch may be faced with a publication in book form. The project with the alleged title “Unrecorded Night” was originally planned as a mystery series for Netflix, plays in Los Angeles and was put on hold in 2019 as part of the Covid 19 pandemic.

First preparations, “and then came Covid”

According to the part of the work, the style of the work is strongly reminiscent of Lynch’s series “Twin Peaks: The Return”. The script comprises around 600 pages and, as cameraman Peter Deming describes, according to “NME”, “basically an absurd long feature film”.

Deming, who worked with Lynch to “Lost Highway”, “Mulholland Drive” and “Twin Peaks”, told “Variety”: “I read it. It was very similar to the last season of Twin Peaks […]. It took me three attempts to read it completely and we talked about it. ”

Before the pandemy-related stop, there had already been the first preparations: “We did a location scouting, David had already hired a scene and spoke to Laura [Dern] and Naomi [Watts] About roles – and then Covid came, ”quotes“ NME ”. “That was the last thing we saw from it.”

Daughter thinks about book publication

Since Lynch’s death in January 2025 – he died in Los Angeles at the age of 78 – the project again focused on. According to Deming, his daughter Jennifer Lynch and other family members are now thinking about a book publication, so quotes “NME”: “It was an idea that came up when David got health problems and you didn’t know if he could still implement it.”

“The best he has ever done”

Sabrina Sutherland, long -time producer on Lynch’s side, was particularly enthusiastic about the work: “The best thing he has ever done,” she said, according to “NME”, about the unfinished script. It remains uncertain whether “Unrecorded Night” will appear on the screen or at least now on paper.

A few days ago, on June 18, personal objects from Lynch’s estate were already auctioned. According to media reports, the auction brought in over $ 4.25 million.
