The outdoor swimming pool of Feel Fit Center in Goirle gives emergency courses to new supervisors to be able to open as quickly as possible. The swimming pool is closed due to a staff shortage and that led to anger at subscription holders last week. Six people have now reported.
According to spokesperson Alex van Broekhoven, there was initially no question of a staff shortage. “Because of the loss of a number of employees due to private circumstances, we now have this problem,” he says against Omroep Tilburg. Of the original team of six employees, three are currently not deployable.
Through an employment agency, internet and a newspaper, the swimming pool tried to find new supervisors. That did not yield anything in the first instance. Also, not everyone can just be a supervisor. For that you have to meet certain requirements: you must be at least 18 years old, have a first aid diploma and save a swimming diploma.
Emergency course
After the outdoor pool announced last week that the doors will remain closed until 30 June, a lot of fuss arose. But it also led to something positive: six people like to work in Goirle, including two security guards. They do not yet have the right papers and so the swimming pool has given them a crashing course on Monday.
According to Van Broek, five of the candidates were successful, another must first improve his own swimming skills. Also, not all candidates are of age, so that they can only be used as a help supervisor in the future. In addition, the applicants have to obtain a first aid diploma, that course takes at least two days. Feel Fit Center depends on an external company.
Swimming pool open again
The swimming pool hopes to open the doors again on Monday 30 June, but it remains to be seen whether it is possible to fill the schedules. If that does not work completely, the swimming pool will look at whether it can open to a limited extent. “We want to open as soon as possible,” says Van Broekhoven. He cordially invites people who are interested in coming to work at the swimming pool to register.
Compensation
Customers can currently stop their outdoor pool subscription and reclaim the money. Many angry customers, however, demand compensation for the temporary closure, but it will not come. “If the weather had been bad, nobody would have said anything. A subscription will cost around 50 euros. If we are closed for a week, we will be talking about 3 euros. That will only result in more discussion,” says Van Broeken.
He understands the disappointment of the swimmers. “We understand that we cannot deliver the service at the moment. Those who want to reverse their purchase can do that. We are not going to discuss the discussion about that.”
