VfB Stuttgart won the DFB Cup a year after the runner-up championship. The father of success is head coach Sebastian Hoeneß, says ex-professional Maurizio Gaudino.
“He is the figurehead of VfB. Since he has been there, it has been uphill in Stuttgart,” emphasized Gaudino in conversation with “Bild”: “He has further developed the whole team. The club can build on that.”
The 43 -year -old Hoeneß came to the country in April 2023 when VfB Stuttgart was in acute relegation. After the successful relegation, the coach led the Swabians directly to the runner -up championship and thus to the Champions League in his first complete season. Numerous VfB professionals, such as Angelo Stiller or Deniz Undav, became national players and continued to belong to the permanent DFB strain of national coach Julian Nagelsmann.
The crowning glory of Sebastian Hoeneß’s tenure so far: the victory in the DFB Cup at the end of May, which, despite ninth rank, also brought in qualification for the Europa League in the Bundesliga season.
Ex-Stuttgart Gaudino provides transfer advice
Club idol Maurizio Gaudino, who played for VfB Stuttgart between 1987 and 1993, now hopes that the core of the team will stay together. Again and again rumors are circulating about possible departures, such as Angelo Stiller or Nick Woltemade.
“I am a friend of trying to stick together and just strengthen themselves,” said the 58-year-old: “The team plays a good football. You don’t need any supplementary players, but boys who help VfB immediately.”
