In December last year, Lidl was unpacked with the arrival of Aleix Espargaro. On the one hand, the 35-year-old Spaniard was brought into the house to put the German-American cycling formation on the market as a well-known sports face, on the other as a mentor for the others during the most important competition days. In addition, the motorcycle racer – for more than twenty years he tore over several international circuits – was also allowed to show himself in the gravel and mountain bike competitions.

“Being able to be active in cycling has been a dream of mine for a long time,” Espargaro said at a press moment of Lidl-Trek. “I was very close to a career switch a few years ago, but then it wasn’t the right time. I only started riding stages and winning races on the motorcycle. That’s why I decided not to get into the cycling.”
Test legs against best riders in the world
Espargaro worked on his condition and now sees the result of it. After a few training camps and tips & tricks of it Performance team On 9 July, the Spaniard will participate in the Tour of Austria on behalf of the Devolopment team of Lidl-Trek. So that will be his very first professional race.
“I am very happy with how this year went,” says Espargaro. “It has completely changed my life and everything I did before. I have grown enormously as a cyclist and I learned a lot in these six months. I feel good and I can’t wait to start and test my legs against some of the best cyclists in the world. It will be a nice challenge anyway, but I have no expectations for my deeven of the De Belegste, my teams,” Espargaro still the fun from in.
Espargaro is still running at TT Assen with Wildcard
What makes the story even better: a week before the start of the Tour of Austria, Espargaro rides as a Wildcard in the MotoGP race in Assen. Espargaro may have stopped as a full -time driver, but as a test driver for Honda HRC he remains active in the world.
The brother of Aleix, Pol Espargaro, does participate full -time in the motor championship. In 2013 he was still crowned world champion in the Moto2 class.
