He was part of a legendary team of Celtic Glasgow, won a big title with the traditional Scottish club. Now John Clark has died.
Celtic Glasgow announced John Clark’s death. The long -time player of the traditional Scottish club died at the age of 84.
Clark belonged to the team that was the first British eleven to win the European Cup of the national champions in 1967. In the final, Celtic defeated the favorite Inter Milan 2-1. The encounter took place in Lisbon – since then the team has been known as “Lisbon Lions”.
Clark stood in the starting eleven on that May 25th. At that time, substitutes were not allowed. Inter took the lead early through Sandro Mazzola (6th), but Tommy Gemmell (63.) and Stevie Chalmers (84.) turned the game in favor of the Scots.
The midfielder played for Celtic from 1959 to 1971. Even after his active career, he remained the club and took on various functions. Clark ran four times for the Scottish national team. Until his death, he was one of the last four still living players from the starting line -up at the time.
