Michael van Gerwen has given an interview for the first time since his divorce. The darter says in an interview with Sportnieuws.nl that ‘everything is now a bit under control’. Van Gerwen announced at the end of May that he was going to divorce his wife Daphne Govers, with whom he was together for twenty years.
“Everyone knows that it has been a very eventful period for me,” he says in an interview with Sportnieuws.nl. “You have to try to make the best of that. You can linger in the past, but I also have to continue. I have to work again and do something that I really like. That is darts at the highest level.”
He does not respond to rumors around his private life. “Many people ask me things, but I think it is a private matter and nobody has anything to do with it. Whatever people say, that doesn’t matter to me that much.” As long as everything is best arranged for his children. “They are my everything. And I deal with it in my own way.”
Last Saturday Van Gerwen already participated during a demonstration tournament in Waregem, Belgium. The triple world champion was in a sporting crisis before his break. At the UK Open he was eliminated early and in the Premier League he missed the play-offs-for the second time in his career.
