Within a year, Janina Minge rose from the emergency nail to the regular and leader in the national team. The trained police champion has a lot to do at the European Championship.
European champion! On Sunday afternoon, the German footballers were at the destination of their dreams and shed the trophy into the sky. The party after the well-deserved 4: 1 victory in the final of the European Police Championship (EPM) against France was therefore left out.
After winning the title, team boss Holger Schwabe sent greetings to Herzogenaurach, where the A national team around Janina Minge is currently preparing for the European Championship in Switzerland (July 2 to 27). Three years ago, Minge was still on the pitch at the EPM and had led Germany to the title.
“I keep my fingers crossed for Janina that she wins the European Championship with the national team. She is a great type,” emphasized Schwabe, who once put his shoes for Hannover 96, and reported: “Pauline Dallmann, the sister of international Linda Dallmann, has already said: ‘We are already European champion. Now my sister and team have to add.'”
Mint with a DFB career at a rapid pace
The role of the offensive midfielder Dallmann in Switzerland is not yet in sight. Mining, however,, who went on a part-time patrol in Freiburg until last summer, a DFB career was in a hurry and is apparently in central defense under national coach Christian Wück.
Janina is totally grounded, not high at all. She is an absolute team player and never gives up.
After she was only nominated for the last minute for the Olympics in 2024 due to the cruciate ligament injury by Lena Oberdorf, she surprisingly completed all six games in Paris. Under coach Horst Hrubesch, she still had her share in the bronze medal in midfield. Under his successor Wück, she has also been on the pitch in all ten games from the start – and was appointed vice captain in spring.
“I didn’t really have much experience before the Olympics. It was surprising for me that I played every game right from the start. I couldn’t have dreamed better that we won bronze,” the 26-year-old looks back. “It is of course very nice that things will continue under the new team of coaches and I’m very happy.”
Only gwinn and ming were always there under Wück
Under Hrubesch still used in the defensive midfield, Mening has found her position in the defense center – while a total of five different players have been tested next to her. In general, only captain Giulia Gwinn and Minge were used in all Wück games.
Janina is just a good footballer – and she feels more experience.
“I am always surprised that she doesn’t have that many caps yet,” says assistant coach Maren Meinert, the MINGE (21 A missions) already knows from the U-national teams. There she saw early on that Minge had the potential to get at the top at some point. Your big plus is your versatility.
Press your fingers crossed with the Police team
National team boss Schwabe saw that Minge was released from the police service last summer before moving to VfL Wolfsburg (“This is a serious loss”), but also with a laughing eye: “Janina appeared with us from day one and not at all highly grounded as a Bundesliga player”, the police officer at Maschsee looks back in Hanover.
“Janina is an absolute team player who never gives up. She has a very good eye and a lot of overview. I wish her all the best in Switzerland and really have a good feeling that the A national team also won the title.”
Now the opponents are being resolved
Minge is pre -shaped by her family when it comes to police. Her father and brother are also with the police. And there are definitely parallels to football: “You also have colleagues you have to rely on.” Instead of public security, she now reliably ensures order in the DFB defensive and has long since preferred to make her opponents ding festival than criminals.
And when would the European Championship be a success? “Yes, I would say with the title,” it shouts out of Minge. “We have an extreme quality in the team. We firmly believe in it and also know that it can work.”
