Sandro Wagner takes over FC Augsburg after his vacation. The club currently has no sports director. That should change promptly.
FC Augsburg is about to make Benjamin Weber from SC Paderborn the new sports director. As the “kicker” and the “New Westphalian” report, the negotiations have already progressed very far. It’s all about details.
Augsburg has been on the road without sports director for around a month after Marinko Jurendić had to go with coach Jess Thorup in May. The Fuggerstädter have already signed a new coach. Sandro Wagner takes over the fortunes on the sidelines for the new season. The ex-Bayern professional was active for the German national team as an assistant coach of Julian Nagelsmann until the end.
Weber, who dressed the office of managing director of Sport in Paderborn, had recently emphasized to the “New Westphalian” that he still had a lot ahead of the second division team. The 42-year-old was also annoyed by the speculation about his person: “New rumors come every week. This is now quite exhausting.”
Before Weber hired in Paderborn in January 2023, he worked as a video analyst for several top European clubs. His stations were called Borussia Dortmund (2015 to 2017), Paris Saint-Germain (2018 to 2020) and FC Chelsea (2021 to 2022). Most of the time he worked under Thomas Tuchel, but for a while also under Jürgen Klopp. At Mainz 05, Weber also acted as a chief scout (2011 to 2015). Previously, he was also used as a video analyst at the 05s since 2006.
