The Czech Marketa Vondrousova won the title at the high -class rasis tournament in Berlin.
The Wimbledon winner from 2023 won 7: 6 (12:10), 4: 6, 6: 2 against Chinese Wang Xinyu in the final on Sunday. Both players had been unscathed and had made well -known opponents on their way to the final.
VonDrousova (25) defeated Australian Open winner Madison Keys (USA), the two-time Wimbledon final ONS Jabeur (Tunisia) and the world ranking Aryna Sabalenka (Belarus) in the semi-finals. Wang (23) threw French Open Champion Coco Gauff (USA) out of the tournament. Of the top ten players in the world, eight were at the start in Berlin, only Iga Swiatek and Qinwen Zheng were missing.
Vondrousova had fallen back far due to injuries in the world rankings. With the title on the facility of the LTTC Rot-Weiß, it jumps from 164 to 73th place. Against Wang, which played her first single final on the WTA tour, she fended off six set balls in the first round. Wang equalized at more than 30 degrees, but VonDrousova prevailed after 2:15 hours.
Eva Lys had received a wildcard for the main field, she was the only German at the preparation tournament on Wimbledon (from June 30). For the 23 -year -old Hamburg woman, however, was already in the first round. Lys gave up in the qualification for the tournament in Bad Homburg on Sunday.
