Washington/Tehran/Tel Aviv (dpa-AfX)-Iran has threatened with consequences according to the US attacks on nuclear systems of the Islamic Republic. “The events of this morning are outrageous and will have permanent consequences,” wrote Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghtschi on X. Iran’s powerful revolutionary guards, the country’s elite trend, again fired dozens of rockets on Israel. According to the local emergency services, 16 people were injured. There were at least ten impacts. Iran’s state broadcasting reported about 30 rockets fired to Israel.
The United States had intervened to war on the side of Israel hours earlier and, according to US President Donald Trump Iran, completely destroyed “decisive plants for uranium enrichment”. According to the international nuclear authority IAEA, no radiation outside of the facilities was released. “After attacks on three nuclear facilities in Iran – including Fordo – the IAEA can confirm that no increase in radiation values outside the systems has so far been reported,” said the authority to X.
Trump warns Iran
Trump warned the Iran of retaliation against US bases in the region. “If peace does not come quickly, we will attack the other destinations with precision, speed and skill, most of them can be switched off in a few minutes,” Trump warned the lead in Tehran. The goal of the United States was the destruction of the Iranian capacities to enrich and the end of the nuclear threat from the “largest state sponsor of terror worldwide”, explained Trump.
The underground uranium enrichment system in Fordo and the locations of Natan and Isfahan were bombarded, Trump said in the White House. Iran now has to choose the path of peace, otherwise future attacks would be much larger. It remains to be seen whether Iran will practice retaliation. According to US media, a total of a total of 40,000 soldiers are stationed at the bases of the US military in the region – for example in Iraq, in Qatar or Kuwait.
Araghtschi had recently negotiated with the United States about the nuclear program. Iran’s representation at the United Nations called for an urgency meeting of the UN Security Council, as the State Radio reported. The Proiran Huthi militia in Yemen condemned the US attacks as “brutal and cowardly aggression”. They are “a blatant injury” of the sovereignty of Iran and “a clear break” international law, the organization said.
UN boss warns of catastrophic consequences for the world
Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke of a “courageous decision” by the US President. “Your courageous decision to target Iran’s nuclear systems with the huge and just power of the United States will change the story,” said Netanyahu in a video message. Defense Minister Israel Katz spoke of a historical step. The aim is to “ensure that Iran has no nuclear weapons – weapons that have endangered Israel, the countries of the region and the national security interest of the United States”.
UN General Secretary António Guterres showed “deeply worried” according to the US attacks and warned of catastrophic consequences for the world. “In this dangerous hour it is crucial to avoid a spiral of chaos,” said Guterres at night. The member states are asked to meet their obligations from the UN Charter. “There is no military solution. The only way forward is diplomacy. The only hope is peace,” said Guterres.
US media: also fired by submarines when attacks in Iran
According to US media reports, two bunkerbreaking bombs, according to the US military, used the Iranian nuclear system in Natans. These were thrown off by a B-2 type bomber. In addition, Natans were also attacked by submarines with a marching aircraft. Six Tarnkappenbomber had dropped a dozen of the largest bunkerbreaking bomb in the US military on the underground nuclear facility Fordo. The third US attack destination in Isfahan was therefore only attacked with marching aircraft.
So far, the US military had only supported Israel in defense, but emphasized that one was not involved in the fighting between Israel and Iran. That has now changed – with unpredictable consequences.
Iran confirms attacks on nuclear facilities
Iran confirmed an attack on the country’s nuclear facilities. However, the state news agency IRNA only reported that part of the area around the uranium enrichment system Fordo had been damaged. She quoted a spokesman for the crisis of the affected province of Ghom, so that the situation in the areas is now calm again. A high -ranking security officer from the province of Isfahan also confirmed attacks “near” the nuclear facilities of Isfahan and Natans, according to the news agency Tasnim connected to the mighty revolutionary guards.
According to an Iranian authority, there is no risk after the US attack on Fordo. There was no danger to the population of Ghom and the surrounding areas, the state news agency IRNA reported, citing the crisis management center of the affected province. Iran’s nuclear energy organization called on the global community to condemn the attacks. The “barbaric action” violates international law.
Tehran also reproached the International Atomic Energy Agency IAEA. The attacks were “under the indifference or even participation” of the IAEA. Iran’s nuclear organization said that despite the “malignant conspiracies of the enemies” Iran’s nuclear program is not stopped.
How the war developed
Israel has been attacking goals in Iran for days – including nuclear facilities, leading military, nuclear scientists, defense positions, destinations in cities and oil and natural gas fields. The main goal is to prevent the Islamic Republic from developing nuclear weapons. Iran reacted with counterattacks to Israel.
Trump had explained on Thursday to make a decision about a possible participation of the United States in the war within two weeks. He had previously tried to dissuade Iran from his controversial nuclear program on the negotiation path. Another round of the talks between the USA and Iran conveyed by the Oman were originally planned for last Sunday – but Israel’s attacks were destroyed.
The war between the two arch enemies Israel and Iran is an important escalation of the already dramatic situation in the Middle East. Israel has been war against the Islamists in the Gaza Strip since the Hamas massacre in Israel on October 7, 2023. In the meantime, Israel also bombed the Hezbollah militia in Lebanon./ln/dp/zb allied with Iran
