Alexander Zverev missed the final at the ATP tournament in Halle/Westphalia. The best German tennis professional lost on Saturday in the semifinals after over three hours at high temperatures with 6: 7 (3: 7), 7: 6 (7: 1), 4: 6 against his fear opponent Daniil Medvedev from Russia, which he was able to conquer in just two of the now 14 past matches.
Medvedev will play on Sunday (3:00 p.m./Eurosport) against the Kazakh Jannik-Sinner-converter Alexander Bucks, the Medwedew’s compatriot Karen Khachanov with 4: 6, 7: 6 (7: 5), 6: 4, around his 21st career title.
Zverev, on the other hand, did not make it to the final in Halle for the third time. In 2016 he lost to Florian Mayer, 2017 Roger Federer. The Hamburger has to wait for its 25th triumph on the ATP tour and the first on lawn.
The two rivals fought a balanced exchange of blows. The only break in the first sentence was awarded the only three -placed Russian, which even a short medical timeout did not get out of the concept.
As in the quarter -finals against Alex Michelsen from the USA, Medvedev had to struggle with nosebleeds.
Zverev shows the best tennis in the tiebreak
In the second round, Zverev immediately gave up his first service game, but immediately brought the break back and stuck the spectators.
Both players now remained stable, then Medvedev worked at 6: 5 and three match balls at the Zverev surcharge. But Zverev saved himself in the renewed tie -break, in which he showed his best tennis.
The momentum was now on Zverev’s side. Once again, the Tokyo Olympic champion collected the early break, the subsequent service game brought Medvedev this time.
Zverev, who had to hand over in the round before the game against Flavio Cobolli from Italy, could not come back at almost 30 degrees. Medvedev converted his fifth match ball after 3:01 hours.
