Alexander Zverev left in the semi -finals of the Rasis tournament in the Westphalian Halle of Hall. Against Daniil Medvedev, he lost in three sets after almost three hours.
The third finals at the Rasm tournament in the Westphalian Halle of Westphalia is denied Alexander Zverev. The best German tennis player defeated 6: 7 (3: 7) in a spectacular and a highly exciting match against Daniil Medvedev; 7: 6 (7: 1); 4: 6 and continue to wait for the first success in East Westphalia.
In a highly competitive game for almost three hours and high temperatures, the Russian narrowly prevailed because it showed the slightly better nerves in the crucial moments. It was the 13th defeat of the German in the 20th meeting against Medvedev.
Medwedew will play against the Kazakh Alexander Budikrat on Sunday (3 p.m.), the Karen Chatschathanow 4: 6, 7: 6 (7: 5), 6: 4, around his 21st career title.
The 28-year-old Zverev can now use the remaining time to prepare for the Grand Slam grass tournament in Wimbledon (30.6.7.7.).
Zverev with a stable serve
Zverev was able to rely on his serve in the first games. With his solid service, he was able to compensate for his forehand weakness, which again plagued him, and collect the necessary points for his game gains. The German had to ward off a breakball in his first service game.
Medvedev made it anything but light with his long returns directly to the baseline. Zverev, however, remained stable, but in return could not bring the good upturn Medvedev into trouble with his service. The game remained completely balanced in this way.
Medevedev confidently in the tiebreak
In the ninth game of the sentence, Medledew had to take a three-minute break because, as in the quarter-finals, he suddenly suffered from nosebleed. Despite the involuntary break, Zverev kept his focus. But his opponent was also harmless.
And so at 6: 6 of the Tiebreak had to bring the decision in which Medledew quickly took the lead 5-0 with three mini-breaks. From now on, Zverev lost the thread and made an inexplicable slight mistake. In the end, Medledew won the first set 7: 6 (7: 3).
Zverev discovers the fighter heart
Medewedew stays true to himself in the first game of the second set, served solidly and took the lead 1-0. And his self -confidence continued. In Zverev’s first service game, Medledew used one of two break balls to 2: 0.
But the German discovered his fighter heart and worked back into the game. After almost infinitely long rallies, Zverev prevailed and he achieved a rebreak to 1: 2, with which the match was completely open again. Zverev was then able to compensate for 2: 2. Zverev also had a breakball in the following service, but Medvedev was just able to ward off it and increase it to 3: 2.
Zverev fends off three match balls
Up to the 6: 5 served and acted as constant as in the first sentence, both players served and acted as constant and did not show any nonsense. Then Zverev suddenly showed nerves and Medvedev had a first match ball at the Zverev serve – but the German could ward off.
At Medvedew’s second chance, Zverev managed to win the point again with a brave basic line and to stay in the game. The German also parried the third match ball. An enormous will. Zverev saved himself in the tiebreak.
This time the German had the much better start and quickly took the lead 6-0 with three mini breaks in the back. In the end, Zverev – who was mentally and playfully on the height – won 7: 6 (7: 1) after a good two hours.
Medvedev again with early break
At the beginning of the third set, Zverev actually had the swing of his spectacular comeback in his back, but apparently he had lost a tick concentration. At 1-1, Zverev also collected a break to 1: 2.
And unlike in the second set, the 29 -year -old Medvedev managed to win his subsequent service with great effort and the defense against three breakballs – and to increase to 3: 1.
Medvedev no longer lets Zverev come up
As a result, Medvedev put the remaining force primarily into his service games – and remained stable. Zverev got no chance of approaching the Russian, even if he was able to win his service games confidently.
In the end, Medvedev completed the set and match profit with a crashing longline back for 6: 4.
