Hamburger SV has a new president. A month and a half after the perfect rise to the Bundesliga, former Ultra fan Henrik Köncke was elected in the Volksparkstadion with a clear majority as the successor to Marcell Jansen. The supervisory board member received 65.71 percent of the vote. In addition to Köcke, the chairman of Honorary Councilor Kai Esselsgroth (29.06 percent) and the entrepreneur Frank Ockens (5.22 percent) were also available.

Almost 1200 of the total of a total of 127,000 members took part in the election. Beach volleyball Olympic champion Laura Ludwig was elected as the sole candidate with just more than 90 percent of the vote as Vice President.
CFO Eric Huwer previously announced an economically positive news: “The net financial liabilities at the end of this financial year are zero. For the first time in the documented history I know, the HSV is therefore debt-free,” said the 41-year-old of the person at the top. Despite the pandemic, the relegation in 2018 in the 2nd league and the personnel reduction in the past seven to eight years, the club has reduced net financial liabilities of 75 million euros.
Criticism after not admission from Magath
The non -approval of clubsidol Felix Magath as president after the advisory board’s decision caused criticism long before the election. According to the committee, Magath is less interested in the popular sport of the mother club and more in the skills in the outsourced professional football area.
The decision at the meeting was occasionally criticized. A fan described Magath’s non-consideration as “not democratic”. However, the applause was rather behavior. Even the urgency application discussed to suspend the election could not prevent the outcome. The required three-quarter majority to allow the application failed. Only 8.49 percent of the members voted for it.
