The first overseas Grand Prix of the MXGP series takes place at the Villa La Angostura cross-track in Argentina. Optimal conditions, with temperatures around 14 ° along the 1,670 meters of dark ground that characterize the rhythmic route of the Patagonian region. Double jumps, triple jumps, waves, rhythm sections, high speeds and flights of 40 meters: “one of the most beautiful tracks in the world” according to Tony Cairoli. The premier class still lacks Jeffrey Herlings (Ktm) and Romain Febvre (Kawasaki), both struggling with recovering from their respective injuries.

MXGP: the first of Renaux

The dream of being in command of an MXGP heat ends immediately on the first lap for Ruben Fernandez (Honda), among the best at the starting gate and then off the track between one jump and another. Pauls Jonass (Husqvarna), winner of the qualifying heats on Saturday, thus takes the lead ahead of Maxime Renaux (Yamaha), Jeremy Seewer (Yamaha), Tim Gajser (Honda) and Jorge Prado (Gas Gas). At 10 ‘from the end of regulation time Jonass falls and Renaux becomes the leader. He begins the confrontation at a distance with Gajser, who in the meantime has bypassed Seewer, lighting up only in the final but with frozen positions. Renaux thus wins his first heat in the premier class ahead of the 2020 World Champion. Over 20 ”behind the winner of the heat Jeremy Seewer, closely followed by Jorge Prado. Alberto Forato closes 12th.

MX2: Geerts in the extra-time

Only seventeen gates occupied in MX2, three of which by local riders. In Race 1 Tom Vialle (Ktm) and Jago Geerts (Yamaha) take off well, taking with him Kay De Wolf (Husqvarna), Simon Langenfelder (Gas Gas) and Gianluca Facchetti (Ktm). Mattia Guadagnini (Gas Gas) sprints around the eighth position, while Andrea Adamo (Gas Gas) loses the front and falls in the opening stages of the heat. The race is a stretch between Vialle and Geerts, with the Frenchman leading the heat for all regulation time. There are two main highlights of the race: the first when, after 10 ‘from the start, Langenfelder puts pressure on De Wolf and the German loses his rear as he exits a right-hander. On the jump after De Wolf loses control of the bike, his Husqvarna breaks down and the Dutchman ends up on the ground. Moments of panic because for several seconds De Wolf didn’t move an inch, but then he managed to get out of the track. The second highlight, the one that in fact decided the fate of the first heat of 2022 outside Europe, was when – two laps from the checkered flag – Jago Geerts engaged in the duel with Tom Vialle, coming out the winner. Excellent third position for Mattia Guadagnini: uphill race and detached from the first two, but a result that needed the number 101 to raise his head from a subdued start to the championship. Gianluca Facchetti is also in the Top 10.
