Borussia Dortmund puts great hopes in his newcomer Jobe Bellingham. At first he was not sure whether he would like to go to BVB at all.
After his debut for Borussia Dortmund, Jobe Bellingham gave an insight into his emotional world before moving to the Westphalia. A few days after the game against Fluminense at the club World Cup (0-0), the 19-year-old commented on the comparison to his brother Jude Bellingham.
The two -year -old Jew once played for BVB. Jobe Bellingham, on the other hand, had always emphasized that he wanted to go his own way. A few weeks ago, the step to Dortmund took place – and with it the same step that Jew took in 2020.
“Sure, that looks contradictory,” said Jobe Bellingham and then lit up: “For a long time I resisted against Dortmund – just out of fear not to be my own gentleman.”
Hans-Joachim Watzke then gave him the crucial words. The BVB managing director told him that it was not about being different, but doing the right one. “And that was exactly what I convinced. I wanted to go the right way, not compulsively another,” said Bellingham. “And if the right way is Dortmund – as with many young players – why not?”
For Jobe Bellingham it is clear that it would also have been wrong to switch to another club just because his brother had already played in Dortmund. “Both paths have risks. Dortmund fought for a long time – and convinced me. And as my family always says: Follow your heart.”
Meanwhile, Bellingham is satisfied with his start at BVB, although it went directly to the USA’s World Cup. “I have the feeling that I am now really to the team. Sure, it is not easy to switch to a new club and then fly away directly, but many people here made it as easy for me as possible,” he emphasized. So far it has been “really fun”.
He again found his debut as “somehow surreal, a bit strange because it was in the USA – it just feels very different.” Nevertheless, Bellingham also spoke of a cool feeling. He described the Metlife stage as “unique” that he had never been there before. “And I felt comfortable on the pitch. So, I’m really happy about it.”
Bellingham had moved from AFC Sunderland to Dortmund. The English U21 international signed a contract until 2030. The Bundesliga club cost the transfer of over 30 million euros.
