The NATO countries probably get a little longer the time to increase their defense budgets that they want to meet at the insistence of the United States, among other things. The negotiators aim that Member States have to spend 5 percent of their economy on defense and supporting matters in ten years, say NATO sources. Secretary-General Mark Rutte had proposed to achieve that goal in 2032.
