Nick Woltemade in the royal blue jersey? That would have been possible. As Michael Reschke revealed in an exclusive interview with RTL/NTV and Sport.de, he wanted to hire the shooting star from VfB Stuttgart when he worked for FC Schalke 04 as a technical director.
“I can reveal a little secret,” says Michael Reschke in an exclusive interview with RTL/NTV and sport.dewhen he is asked about the steep development of Nick Woltemade: “In my Schalke time we tried to sign Nick Woltemade.”
For the 2019/20 Bundesliga season at FC Schalke 04, Reschke took over the new post of the technical director at the time. At that time he was responsible for the realignment of the Scoutin Division and for the squad planning. Woltemade was still kicking in the young teams of SV Werder Bremen.
Reschke recently met the parents of the 23-year-old. “At that time we discussed a bit about the conversations.” At that time Woltemade remained loyal to the green and whites, and a little later also gave his competitive debut.
Stuttgart star Woltemade already has “international class”
After he did not get out of short assignments in the 2021/22 season, he was awarded to the then third division team SV Elversberg for one season. After a Bundesliga season with Werder, Woltemade decided last summer to switch to VfB Stuttgart. There he started after starting difficulties, convincing especially in the second half of the season. In the end, in his first VfB season he booked 17 goals, which recently brought him a first invitation from national coach Julian Nagelsmann.
Woltemad’s development is “exceptional”, says Reschke now: “The technical tools, the feeling for the game – that’s absolute class.”
The attacker already has “international class”, although in the two international matches in the Nations League against Portugal and France you could see that the “A national team or the absolute top level is already very challenging for him”.
Bavaria change? Reschke is clear of a clear opinion
For the time being, Michael Reschke would expressly advise the Youngster to play at least one more season at VfB Stuttgart.
“VfB Stuttgart is a club that has recently developed very well under Sebastian Hoeneß. And I think that it is very in good hands at the moment,” the long -term football official in an interview with RTL/NTV and sport.de out.
The fact that a player “if there are other international and interesting offers” is in the nature of it “is in the nature of the matter. But especially in this year of the World Cup, in which he has a real chance of becoming a regular player, a familiar environment, as with VfB Stuttgart, is certainly a good address”.
Therefore, Michael Reschke currently does not believe in a possible switch to FC Bayern, which is said to have long stretched out his feelers.
“The two positions that Woltemade can play are either the nine, the second tip or the ten. And since now in the competition with Harry Kane and Jamal Musiala – I would have no understanding for that. I don’t see that at the moment,” said the 67 -year -old.
