In the coming days a lot of water will be dragged at various events in our province. We are waiting for a number of hot days and that ensures the necessary measures in various activities that are planned.
It became clear yesterday that the TT City Run and the TT marathon on Saturday were deleted. The organization does not think it is justified to have runners put the distances with the high temperatures that are expected.
Other events generally take place for the time being, but the heat forces organizations to adjust something here and there. For example, the city center of Emmen is the domain of children on Saturday and Sunday. The Vlinderstad is dominated by the Festival Alles Kids, where the city floor is transformed into a free amusement park. Wesley Struik from the organization says that the event can continue despite the heat. “We have replaced a number of attractions by attractions with water. On the Marktplein there is also a tap with water available and there are 25 volunteers who warn the visitors that they should look after the heat. In thirteen years we have already experienced a heat-weekend five times during everything kids, luckily there have never been any problems with that.”
Another big event this weekend is the Holland International Blues Festival, which starts tomorrow night. The organization behind the Music Festival calls on visitors to prepare well for the warmth and bright sun by bringing sunscreen and head covering. Furthermore, small, empty plastic bottles or water bags can enter that visitors can fill at the water taps and thanks to the large tent there is room for everyone to sit or stand out of the sun, a spokesperson reports.
Orvelte would be dominated by the bladder capble festival on Sunday, but that event was blown up. Ben Raterink of the organization: “We have canceled it. The musicians are playing in uniforms and that is really too hot weekend. Moreover, they are in Orvelte in some places also in the full sun. You can’t do this to the public either. We don’t want any accidents, so we decided last night not to let it go.”
On the site of VV Emmen, the FC Emmen G-Sportdag will be on the agenda on Sunday where people with a disability can get acquainted with various sports such as football, hockey and basketball. There are, among other things, different demonstrations and it is especially the intention that the visitors will move themselves. Do you want to work out with these high temperatures? “Yes, that is possible,” says Gwen Verhaegh of Fonds Disabled Sports Netherlands enthusiastically. “But we certainly take measures. We are working on a heat plan. We decide what exactly it will look like, we decide at the last minute. It makes a difference that it is not a performance sport, there is no competition element. Where the athletes will normally run, we will now go for a nice walk. If there is movement, that’s what it is all about. We will in any case shorten the event and perhaps we will shorten the event.”
Another sporting event will be linked to the Zuiderpark Zomerfair on Saturday in Hoogeveen, as the Vitaal Zuiderpark Run & Walk is also held there. Organizer Dik Zantingh expects few problems despite the heat. He does not have to take many measures. “We are going to provide enough water and we move the stalls for the fair what so that everyone can stand in the shade. And also the run and walk can continue. It is a route of 5 kilometers especially in the shade of the trees. That is the beauty of an event in the park, all activities can actually be in the shade.”
