After a draw at the start, Inter Miami and Lionel Messi were under pressure against FC Porto. But the Argentine’s magic foot had his team cheered.
Inter Miami and Lionel Messi have moved into the round of 16 at the club World Cup. In the second group game against FC Porto, the US club prevailed 2-1 and now occupied two points in group A with four points. The Brazilian club Palmeiras had previously won 2-0 against Al Aly and also leads the table with four points. On the last matchday, Miami and Palmeiras meet directly.
In the first group game against Al Ahly, Miami hadn’t got out of 0: 0 and even against Porto it didn’t look good for Miami at first. In the first half, the Portuguese were the better team overall and took the lead in the eighth minute due to a converted penalty from Samu Agehowa. But right at the beginning of the second half, Miami turned up and equalized in the 47th minute through Telasco Segovia. Only seven minutes later Messi then turned a direct free kick to the corner and brought his team to the front. That was enough to win.
FC Porto now threatens the early end of the competition in the USA. In turn, they did not get out of 0-0 in the first group game against Palmeiras. With just one point, they take third place and need protective help to reach the KO round on the last matchday.
